A two-day Tirupati plan for first-time pilgrims
Arrive, visit Tiruchanur, sort your darshan tickets, take the first bus up the hill, and come down with time to spare. A schedule for a family staying on Tiruchanoor Road, with the bus times and when to leave the hotel.

This is the plan most families staying with us end up following. It assumes you arrive by train or bus in the afternoon and want darshan on the second morning. Adjust the darshan step depending on whether you hold a ₹300 Special Entry ticket or are collecting free SSD tokens.
Day 1: arrive, settle, Tiruchanur, tickets
Afternoon. Reach Tirupati. Auto from the station or bus stand to “Tiruchanoor Road, Starbucks”, ten minutes. Check in, tea from the kettle, rest for an hour.
5 PM. Tiruchanur temple, 2 km down the road. Darshan of Sri Padmavathi Ammavari is quick on a weekday evening. Traditional dress, phones left in the room or in the auto.
7 PM. Dinner on foot: PS4 or A2B for a vegetarian meal, Orion if the group wants a longer menu. Pick up biscuits or fruit for the morning.
Evening. Darshan tickets.
- If you have a ₹300 Special Entry booking, check the reporting time, save the PDF, and set out the Aadhaar cards.
- If you are collecting SSD tokens, go to Srinivasam or Vishnu Nivasam at that day’s issue time — check the TTD notice or the helpline on 155257 before you set out. All members must be present with Aadhaar. Return and sleep.
Before bed. Set an alarm and check the first bus time on tirumala.org. Keep darshan clothes and a small cloth bag ready.
Day 2: darshan and rest
3:00 AM. Up, and tea from the kettle. Leave by 3:15.
3:30 AM. Central Bus Station. Buses to Tirumala leave every few minutes. The ride is 30 to 60 minutes. By car, allow an hour to reach the Alipiri check point and climb the ghat road.
5 AM onwards. Tirumala. Deposit phones and footwear, report at your slot (or join the token line), darshan, laddu counter. With a Special Entry ticket or an SSD slot most families are done in two to three hours; the open queue can take much longer.
Late morning. Breakfast at the annaprasadam hall or a canteen, then the bus down. You are back at the hotel by early afternoon.
Afternoon. Rest. Late lunch on Tiruchanoor Road. If there is energy, ISKCON (3.8 km) for an hour before sunset, or Kapila Theertham (12.5 km, about 25 minutes each way) if you have longer. Otherwise, coffee next door.
Day 3, optional: a temple on the way out, or a day trip
- Srikalahasti (38 km, about an hour) fits neatly before a Chennai-bound train from Renigunta.
- Chandragiri fort (15 km) is a two-hour outing before a Bengaluru-bound bus.
- With a full day, Kanipakam via Chandragiri, or Talakona for the waterfall.
Check-out is 11 AM and reception holds luggage after that, so you can do the morning trip and collect your bags on the way to the station.
A note on peak days
During Brahmotsavam, Vaikuntha Ekadasi, long weekends and school holidays, expect the waits to be twice as long. Book Special Entry the day it releases. Keep day 3 free in case darshan runs late. See our festival calendar for the dates.

Questions guests ask
Is one night enough for Tirumala darshan?
It can be, if you arrive by afternoon, collect SSD tokens or hold a Special Entry booking, and take the first bus up the next morning. Two nights is more comfortable and lets you visit Tiruchanur and rest after darshan.
What time should we leave the hotel for darshan?
For an early slot, leave by 3:15 AM for the Central Bus Station; buses to Tirumala start around 3 AM. By car, leave about an hour and a quarter before your reporting time.
Where do we get darshan tokens?
Free SSD tokens are issued at Srinivasam (opposite the bus station) and Vishnu Nivasam (opposite the railway station), both 3 km from the hotel. The ₹300 Special Entry is booked online about 60 days ahead.
Can we add Srikalahasti?
Yes, on the morning of departure or as a third day. It is about an hour by car from Tiruchanoor Road.
